		  How to Install
========================================================
There are 2 ways to install the mod though automatically with SCRIPTORIUM or by moving and editing the Necessary files as instructed. The easiest way is to do use SCRIPTORIUM while manual is for more advance users.

------------------------------------------------
         ***Installing automatically***
------------------------------------------------
To install automatically use
SCRIPTORIUM by Numenor:

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=192613

It will install most necessary files including userstartup.cheat you do not need to follow the Manual install instructions. But for updating check 'how to update'
(Thanks to Numenor)

Note: This is does not contain the RLS-Shaders should only be used with NL and up.

***Installing with Deluxe or Double Deluxe Editions***
------------------------------------------------------------
Open folder called _Deluxe Editions.
Move the folder of the version of the Deluxe Edition that you have.

If you have Deluxe you don't install "Nightlife" and the "The Sims 2" folders as they are already included the deluxe folder. As With Double Deluxe you don't install "Nightlife", "Celebration" and "The Sims 2" folders. Continue install your other EP and SP if you have them following Manual Install.

---------------------------------------------------------
                ***Installing Manually***
---------------------------------------------------------
1) Make sure that you can run the game on high lighting and shadow settings and that your card supports pixel shader 2.0 to get the full effect of the mod. If you can run the game lighting on high then you are able to use this mod.
The mod can used with UseShaders false. You do not need 2.1 or 2.2 to install.

2) back up your userStartup.cheat by renaming it to something else
Found in:
\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config

3) Extract into the folders into ALL games that you have. Look in "_Stuff Packs" for SP games extract them if needed.

-------------------------------------
        ***Example***
-------------------------------------
You have The Sims 2, Freetime, OFB, Family Fun Stuff

Open the .zip
Drag The Sims 2, Freetime, OFB folders from the zip into C:\Program Files\EA GAMES
Yes to replace
For stuff packs go _Stuff packs
And drag and drop in the same spot and replace.

NOTE: If you have H and M or IKEA the folder name in the zip couldn't read the (R) symbol and it replaced it with an r. It is recommended that you move the lights folder manually instead of extracting it.

-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
4) The userStartup.cheat can be done either:

-a) Open userStartup file with notepad and copy all lines from this mod.
Then go to:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config
Open the userStartup with notepad and paste the contents at the top in the txt file.

-b) Extract the userStartup to:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config
This will overwrite everything that's in the file. This can be avoided by following step A instead.

If you find that you don't have a userStartup use method B

--------------------------------------
      ***Useshaders false***
--------------------------------------
If you have problems running the game with UseShaders on true. You can change it to false by opening userstartup with notepad and editing the line:
boolProp UseShaders true

And changing true to false:
boolProp UseShaders false

With it false, pool shaders and Bumpmapping will be disabled. Fish will disappear if using Seasons.

You would normally do this if your card has problems with 2.0 shaders and experience low FPS(slowdowns) after installing the mod.
=========================================================
                 Optional Files
=========================================================
Those are optional files that will change my default settings for unlit rooms and objects. This can be ignored if you don't want them changed. I recommend to use my settings first before deciding to change any of them.

-----------------------------------------
         ***pool reflections***
-----------------------------------------
RLS-Shaders changes the pool water shaders; don't use with Seasons unless you are playing the game with useshaders false.
This will only work with Nightlife and up.

Extract the RLS-Shaders.package in _optinal Files

To:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Note: Remove the RLS-Shaders if you encounter problems with it installed.

-------------------------------------------
            ***Unlit rooms***
-------------------------------------------
You can choose between darker or bright shadows if you don't like the RLS default. This is how dark it will be in unlit rooms.
The default is balanced between realism and gameplay. Darker will be darker to those of older version of my beta. While brighter will be something close to maxis but greatly reduced.

Open either Darker Unlit rooms or Brighter Unlit rooms in optional files folder

Move the lighting file to:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights

For Deluxe:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights

For Double Deluxe:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights

-------------------------------------------
        ***Balance Light Objects***
-------------------------------------------
With this file all lamps to be a bit more balanced with each other rather than based on the lights itself and how much light it should be casting. I don't know of other side affects with this besides that objects will tend to be getting much more light than they would of and will start to glow.

Open Balance Light Objects in the Optional files folder

Move the RLS-CustomLights file to:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights

For Deluxe:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights

For Double Deluxe:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights
=========================================================
		 How to Update
=========================================================
If you are a previous user you can just simply need to extract a single folder into you base game to update the mod. This will also work if you installed with the SCRIPTORIUM.

-----------------------------
       ***Updating***
-----------------------------
Extract only the Sims 2 folder in the zip into your game dictionary same way like manual install:
EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights

If you using Deluxe or Double Dexlue do this instead:

For Deluxe:
The Sims 2 Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights

For Double Deluxe:
The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights

--------------------------------------------
   ***Installed with SCRIPTORIUM***
*But the RLS files are not updated yet*
--------------------------------------------
If SCRIPTORIUM contains the outdated version of RLS you just need to extract the Sims 2 folder into you game dictionary.

---------------------------------------
  ***Installed with SCRIPTORIUM***
       *RLS files are updated*
---------------------------------------
For updating the SCRIPTORIUM program first uninstall the program. Download the new version of SCRIPTORIUM that contains the updated files of RLS 2.3 and install.

--------------------------------------------
      ***updating User Startup.cheat***
--------------------------------------------
You only need to do this if you are using a version below beta 1.7. If not inore this part.

Userstartup.cheat can be done in two ways:

---Method A:
Use this Method if you have other codes in your userstartup that you don't want removed.

1) Open userStartup.cheat in the .zip with notepad and copy all lines from this mod.

2) then go to:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config

3) open the userStartup.cheat with notepad and highlight the old gunmod code.

Then paste the new code on top of the old one.

---Method B:
Use this if you don't have a userstartup.cheat or don't care to lose the contents in your userstartup file.

Extract the userStartup.cheat to:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config

This will overwrite everything that's in the file. This can be avoided by following Method A instead.

----------------------------------------
     ***For updating 2.1 and 2.2***
----------------------------------------
For 2.1, 2.2 users upgrading to 2.3 Beta follow "how to install" instructions. You may need to remove the RLS-Shaders from 2.2 in your downloads if you have Seasons or don't want to use it.

========================================================
		    How to Uninstall
========================================================
---------------------------
     ***Automatic***
---------------------------
SCRIPTORIUM can uninstall the mod by uninstalling it after you've made the choice of installing RLS 2.3 with it first.

--------------------------
       ***Manual***
--------------------------
First, delete all files in:
The Sims 2\TSData\Res\lights
and
The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\lights

If you using Deluxe or Double Dexlue delete:
The Sims 2 Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights
or
The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Lights

Download "BACKUP Maxis lighting" where you downloaded this mod.

Restore a backup of your userStartup file:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config
OR
Delete it if you don't use it.

Delete "RLS-Shaders.package" from your downloads folder:
My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

Then replace the lighting folders with the backup ones including all of your EP's and SP's like if you where installing the mod manually.

========================================================
		       Issues/Notes
========================================================
1. Snow Lighting at dawn/dusk/night:

-Snow is not affected by the outside color or brightness, this includes lamps. This is unchangeable as
it appears to be a shader effect. This also applies to pools.

2. Taking screenshots at night indoors is dark:

-If you have a single light you going to have a problem getting the right amount of light for you shot.
Place weak lights on the opposite side of a characters dark side. You can use floor, wall lights or candles to achieve this effect. But putting too much can lead to pop in such as there is so much light that light color objects will glow. You will need to experiment and find a balance between them. Remember that not all lights have the same power. You can also change how much darkness is in a room by following
Optional files instructions found in the install section further info found below.

3. No dawn or dusk for BV lots:

-BV lots seem to be treated differently from the lighting.txt even if the BV content is in there. I might just be missing something.

4. Lights are leaking from the ceiling:

-"This is due to the mod now making light travel realistic distances. The Reason is because when you
built your roof there is an "open area" from where the ceiling should be and where the attic would be.
To fix this, click up to one level and make sure you have a solid floor between floors. Since the game
doesn't have "ceilings" this is faked by the game to simulate a ceiling. The roof itself does not block
all light as a real roof would. This again is a default problem that was not visible before. As long as
you place a floor down above the ceiling (any tiles will work) then this will block the leaking light." Gunmod

If you have Seasons or Apartments is recommended to build this way since new features are introduced
with those expansion packs such as ceilings and raining indoors without a roof.

5. Lights lose their Practical lighting (lighting on objects):

-There are two incenses that this happens. One is when you are on a lower floor and you go up a floor
and there is a wall light but the walls are down, it will lose its practical light. This is confirmed
to be a Maxis bug do to the default lighting being very bright where its very unnoticeable. The mod
makes the problem more apparent than before. This can also apply to why some lights only use 1 type
of lighting instead of 2 as both were not as needed before. A temp fix is to pick up the light and
drop it, buy a new one or force error it if you are in downtown lot. If its a wall light you need to
make the walls up and you can put the walls down after. Ceiling Lights can be fixed faster by moving
one level up and down but it will not all ways work.

6. Apartment Life's wall feature when lowered makes objects very dark:

-^See above. This is also a Maxis "Feature" where it will take lighting thats below 1 level Such
as 2nd floor wall objects will get lighting from a room directly below it. Workaround will be to
put a strong enough light in the previous floor, more so inside foundations. If the wall object
is moved up it will use the 3rd floor lighting. This is apparent with the default lighting there
seem to be no other way to fix this as this is how this feature was implemented in the first place.

7. Broken table light from OFB:

-A table light named "The Photon-Master 3000, Tabletop Edition" from OFB; Maxis has its diffusive
Lighting directed onto another object. This ended up breaking the diffusion causing walls and floors
to not have light coming from this object. This may only be fixed if the object's light source is
changed with a hack. See above^^

8. Outside/Inside was bright before but now its darker, its not raining (Seasons):

-This is because of the weather type overcast which will darken both outdoors and indoors. This also
appears during snow and hail. If you trying to take a screenshot either fast-forward until it goes
back to sunny or use a weather hack. The update increased overcast brightness to counteract this.

9. Effects like Bubbles and water splashes are not matching with the surrounding lighting:

-Those are shader effects like the snow on the ground which does not get affected by lighting.

10. Original aquarium doesn't cast light:

-That object's lighting has been disabled; it was made with light setting that allowed it to leak
though walls and floors. This can only be fixed if it was a new or edited object with correct lighting
properties. This goes the same for computers but I put a very weak light to try to hide this affect.

11. Monitor brightness Verses Desktop brightness:

-I recommend that you calibrate your monitor so it projects the correct amount of brightness and contrast. If you dont things like the in-game brightness is different than the screenshot file brightness.

12. The chandelier in M&G only lights the second floor:

-Another problem with how objects are made and what they do. This is made to be a 2 story light but it
will only affect on the 2nd floor. Only other way to fix this is that a hack changes the positions of the light source.

13. There are two windows casting incorrect sun shine outside the window frame while indoors is not
one glass plate window from the base game and one from M&G:

-I really don't think I can do anything about this unless its changed with a hack.

14. Screenshots and darkness:

-With the lights casting more realistically you may find some to be dark on one side. Such as,
a single light source in a dark room but your shot will take the dark side of the character you are taking.
A way is to add a light source on the foreground of the person. Just like filming you cant really film
in a dark/dim room with a single light you need some sort of ambient light to show the character more.

15. Darkness:

-Well I've balanced out darkness as much as I did with the amount of light that cast from objects so
this will probably not be changed unless its object related. It can now be brighten.

16. Glow:

-I've tried to counter this with beta 1.7 but it just became too dark and it didn't really help much at
all. Best advice is to not put so much light next to each other or even a single high wattage light might
affect this. Its most noticeable with white objects such as the very common white door.

17. I don't like ect. ect. Needs a ect. ect. Something is broken ect. ect.:

-Please tell me about it, I might be able to do something base on feedback I'm getting
